How can we cool our garden room in summer?
Introduction
Many garden room companies write a lot of articles about how you can heat and keep warm your summerhouse- but what about keeping your garden room cool?
Because on those hot summer’s days, you might want to work in your garden office. And what you don’t want is to emerge completely drenched in sweat, very hot, and wishing that you had worn more deodorant!
So, what’s the solution how do you cool a garden room?
Air conditioning
In our opinion there’s air conditioning, and then there’s air conditioning- and what do we mean by that?
Well, some really cheap air conditioning units, are really not up to the job of cooling a garden room, and if the cheap air conditioning units do, they make take an eternity to bring the room temperature down to a level where its comfortable.
So, we would recommend hiring a garden room company, that install quality brands of air-conditioning, and sometimes our customers know the brand they want. For example, they may know that they want a Mitsubishi air conditioning unit, as these are very good quality or they may want a Hitachi air conditioning unit, both brands are very high quality. So if you do obtain a quote from a garden room company, and on the quote it just states “air conditioning unit” then we would recommend that you ask, which brand the company is going to use.
That’s because you want a powerful air conditioning unit, a top-quality air-conditioning unit, that once you press the remote to switch it on, within minutes you should be able to feel the room getting much cooler.
Have quality panel insulation fitted to the celling, the walls and the floor
When your garden room is being constructed, behind the plasterboard walls, and ceiling and beneath the floor, you should have a panel insulation fitted.
Panel insulation, is made with a centre that’s made from insulating foam, this comes in various thicknesses, the thicker the better, as the thicker the panel insulation, the better it will be at insulating the room. However, panel insulation can be very thick, and you do have to think how much of the internal room will be taken up by the panel insulation, and then the plasterboard added to the outside.
Yet panel insulation should be added to the roof, the side walls and floor, panel insulation is not just used to keep the garden room warm in winter, its also used to reflect heat and for the hot air to be reflected in the summer. Of course, if you have the windows and doors wide open in summer, then hot air will come in, yet if you hire our electricians to install air conditioning, then this means that the panel insulation can keep the cold air inside for longer, that’s if the windows and doors are closed.
Sheep’s wool insulation
Some customers will want their garden room built in an eco-friendly way as possible, so for example, some customers may ask us to buy reclaimed wood from a reclamation yard. This is great, because often the wood, such as 2×4 timbers will be cheaper than to buy new, and then some customers don’t want panel insulation, they want their insulation to be 100% natural, so they may want sheep’s wools insulation.
We can put sheep’s wool insulation in the side walls, to better insulate your garden office or room.
Would you like triple glazing fitted?
We can install triple glazing, this will not only make the garden room quieter inside, but also improve the energy efficiency of the room, because triple glazing is a very energy efficient type of windows.
We can even have bi-folding doors made, that are made using triple glazing.
Triple glazing is quite expensive, yet if you want your garden room to be as energy efficient as possible, then we would recommend having triple glazing installed.
We can fit blinds within the windows
We would highly recommend that you opt for bi-folding doors, and windows, which have blinds fitted in the windows, this helps you to adjust the light coming into the garden room.
Solar panels can help to keep electric costs down
We have mentioned in this article, about having air conditioning fitted to your garden room, yet, a lot of people may be put off by having air conditioning installed, due to the electric costs of having the air conditioning unit on. So, we would recommend having solar panels fitted to the roof of your garden room, so that you can generate electric, and this can help to offset some of the cost of having your air conditioning switched on. We would could also install a massive battery within a side room of your garden room, so the electric generated by the solar panels, can be stored in the massive battery, then you could use this electric when you want. With rising energy prices, we think having solar panels fitted to your garden room just makes sense.
Think about the exterior cladding
Think about which exterior cladding you want, for example, some metal sheet cladding, can actually come with a foam insulation as well, so this can help to better insulate your summerhouse. The great thing about having metal sheet cladding is that it is very low maintenance, as it’s not like wood, and wont need painting or varnishing.
